CHAP - Key issues

  • Doesn't stop erosion, just destroys value: Council needs to rethink its approach to this surprise “plan”, which does nothing to stop erosion on the beaches or inundation along the river system from a projected rising sea level, but potentially destroys tens of millions of dollars of economic value – harming everyone.

  • Limited community engagement: The CHAP announcement was rushed out over the 2021 summer holiday break, denying residents the time needed to develop an understanding of the plan and give informed feedback to Council because of the short public consultation period.

  • Plenty of downside, limited upside: The plan will negatively impact thousands of the region’s residents but won’t stop erosion or inundation.

  • Far reaching negative implications: The impacts of the CHAP will extend beyond the coastal areas to properties along the Noosa River waterways and other areas of the Shire.

  • Council isn't acting reasonably or responsibly: We are calling on the Mayor and Council to be reasonable, to understand the community’s concerns and not go down the path of recklessly harming the confidence of local residents in their own futures – with absolutely no new measures to prevent erosion or inundation.

  • Doesn't protect the beaches: The best way to protect our beaches and river system and our communities is practical erosion and inundation controls which benefit the community – not hurt it.
